This approach is pivotal for lesions in the foramen magnum region and upper clivus. It allows safe exposure of the cranio-cervical junction with direct access to the ventrolateral surface of the medulla and cervical spinal cord, making it ideal for meningiomas, posterior circulation aneurysms, and extradural-intradural tumors.
